RNLI

A partnership helping to save lives at sea

Ørsted first partnered with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) in 2015, helping to fund the lifeboat running costs of lifeboat stations in Barrow; Clacton-on-Sea; Humber; New Brighton; Ramsgate; and Wells ― all of which are close to Ørsted’s offshore wind farm locations. In 2018, Ørsted extended its partnership to include Skegness Lifeboat Station.

Our contribution has ensured volunteer crews can continue their lifesaving work at sea and to date has directly supported more than 1,831 lifeboat launches, helped more than 3,395 people in distress and saved 127 lives.

The next phase of our partnership will focus on supporting the training of its crews at the seven lifeboat stations over the next two years to help the charity continue their invaluable work.

RNLI volunteers train at least fortnightly on station and regularly at night to replicate real life emergencies. This training is supported by attendance at the award-winning residential RNLI College in Poole, visits to stations by trainers and via distance learning courses.

With 12 operational offshore wind farms in the UK, Ørsted shares the same strong focus on safety and training is a central focus to ensure that staff have the right tools and the knowledge to keep everyone safe working at sea.
To celebrate the RNLI’s 200th anniversary, here’s a showcase of Lucy. A dedicated member of our environment and consents team, Lucy has been a part of with the RNLI in New Brighton in the west coast for the past 8 years.

Proud to work within two sectors which give her a huge sense of purpose, Lucy says: "Not only am I lucky enough to help delivery green electrons to the energy mix, I'm also helping to save lives at sea."
