About Ørsted

We are a renewable energy company that takes tangible action to create a world that runs entirely on green energy.

Climate change is a reality, and it’s rapidly changing the conditions of life on Earth. To protect our shared home, we need to become better at powering it with green energy.  Our aim is to develop and deploy market leading green energy solutions that benefit the planet and our customers alike, further driving down the cost of green energy. By deploying renewable energy resources at scale, we want to revolutionise the way we power people and reduce the effects of climate change.

Our vision is clear: Let’s create a world that runs entirely on green energy.

Over the past 30 years we have established our company as a global leader in offshore wind with a 25 per cent market share. We develop, construct and operate offshore wind farms in Europe, the US and Asia, and have built enough offshore wind to power 9.5 million people. By 2025, our ambition is to power 30 million people with offshore wind. The UK is our biggest market with twelve offshore wind farms already operation. By the end of 2021, we will have invested over £13 billion in the construction of new wind farms in the UK. We are committed to ensuring that our presence contributes to sustainable growth and development, helping to support UK net-zero targets and benefit the communities in which we operate.

In addition to offshore wind, we have UK projects in onshore wind located in Scotland, renewable hydrogen – also known as green hydrogen – which will play a vital role in decarbonising industry and transport, energy storage from renewable sources and Renescience, an innovative bioenergy technology that converts unsorted household waste to energy using an enzyme treatment process.

Ørsted is the most sustainable energy company in the world

A decade ago, we initiated our transformation from a black to a green energy company. Since then, we have  reduced our CO2 emissions by 86% since 2006 and will be completely coal-free by 2023 . In 2017, we divested our upstream oil & gas business, completing our transformation to become a leading pure play renewables company.

In January 2021, Ørsted was ranked the world’s most sustainable energy company by Corporate Knights’ 2021 index of the Global 100 most sustainable corporations.

We are headquartered in Denmark and our shares are listed on Nasdaq Copenhagen (Orsted). We employ 6,311 people including over 1,000 in the UK, who collaborate with our partners to revolutionise the way we power people through innovative green energy solutions and real action.

We have taken our name from Hans Christian Ørsted, one of Denmark’s best known scientists and innovators. Through his curiosity, dedication and interest in nature he discovered electromagnetism in 1820, helping to lay the scientific foundation for how power is produced today. The qualities of Hans Christian Ørsted are just what we need to truly revolutionize the way we power people.
