We’ve committed to building Hornsea 3, the world’s single largest offshore wind farm

At Ørsted, we don’t do things by halves. We set pioneering, trailblazing goals.

With a vision to create a world that runs entirely on green energy, we have to think big.

That’s why we’ve taken final investment decision (FID) on the world’s single largest offshore wind farm, Hornsea 3, which will have a a capacity of 2.9 GW and is expected to be completed around the end of 2027.

With a capacity of 2.9 GW, Hornsea 3 will generate enough low-cost, renewable electricity to power more than 3.3 million UK homes.

Hornsea 3 will be Ørsted’s third gigawatt-scale project in the Hornsea zone, following Hornsea 1 (1.2 GW) and Hornsea 2 (1.3 GW). It will make a significant contribution towards the UK Government’s ambitious target of 50 GW of offshore wind by 2030 and net-zero by 2050.

Hornsea 3 facts

  • 2.9 GW total capacity
  • 160 km off the Yorkshire coast
  • Expected to be completed around the end of 2027
Duncan Clark, Head of Ørsted UK & Ireland, said: “Hornsea 3 will be a cornerstone in achieving the UK government’s climate and clean energy targets while increasing energy independence and creating local jobs.”

Hornsea 3 will support up to 5,000 jobs during its construction phase, with up to a further 1,200 permanent jobs both directly and in the supply chain in the long operational phase, and will be operated out of our operations and maintenance hub in Grimsby.

The road to the global green transition is full of milestones big and small. We’re confident that Hornsea 3 will be one of the major renewables projects that shows we can create a world that runs entirely on green energy.
