Thank you for visiting our Ørsted stand if you were at Global Offshore Wind in Manchester 18-19 June. This year’s theme was the ‘Coming of Age’ of the offshore wind industry.

We enjoyed engaging in robust discussions with industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers at the conference both on and off the stage about what a mature offshore wind industry should look like and how we can work together to ensure the green energy revolution works for both people and planet.

Benj Sykes, UK Country Manager, Head of Environment & Permitting, Europe, joined a panel discussion about strategic planning. “If we’re serious about getting to net-zero, if we’re serious about getting energy security and low stable prices for consumers by building offshore wind, we’re going to have to have a much more managed approach – much more plan led. It needs to go beyond a plan. We need a system architect there to execute the plan,” said Benj.

The Global Offshore Wind Workshop

We were delighted to sponsor a skills workshop to inspire and motivate approximately 120 GCSE level students from local Manchester schools to consider a career in renewable energy.

"We were thrilled to host bright young minds from local schools in Manchester for a day of learning about offshore wind. The energy and enthusiasm from the students were contagious,” said Duncan Clark, Ørsted's Head of Development, Europe. “We hope that hearing about the vast opportunities in the offshore wind sector will inspire the next generation to join our dynamic industry."

To be fair, it was also the world’s first. Now with 30+ years of experience, we’re building the world's single largest offshore wind farm off the UK coast– Hornsea 3. It’s just one project out of 7.6 GW of offshore wind capacity we're building globally in 2024, enough to power over 7 million homes.
