Energy security in times of war - exposure, price and dependence
The Middle East war has triggered a surge in oil and gas prices, driven by fears of sustained disruption to shipping via the Strait of Hormuz, a key artery for energy traffic, as well as loss of production across the Middle East.
During this session the panel discussed whether energy security is now about producing more energy domestically or managing exposure to global markets. They questioned how governments and investors manage structural dependence risks without raising costs or slowing the deployment of new energy sources. The panel went on to discuss whether energy shocks accelerate the transition by strengthening the case for domestic renewables.
