Wienerberger sources renewable electricity from DONG Energy

Wienerberger, the UK's leading provider of building material solutions, has announced a partnership with global leader in offshore wind power DONG Energy, which will now supply all of Wienerberger's UK sites with renewable electricity. The partnership demonstrates Wienerberger's commitment to responsible sourcing and reducing the carbon footprint of its business activities.

DONG Energy supplies renewable electricity from eight offshore wind farms in the UK, backed by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs). It was announced last year that DONG Energy would also supply renewable electricity at no additional premium, so that UK businesses can achieve their sustainability ambitions without commercial disadvantage.

About DONG Energy:

DONG Energy (NASDAQ OMX: DENERG) is one of Northern Europe's leading energy groups and is headquartered in Denmark. Around 6,200 ambitious employees, including over 850 in the UK, develop, construct and operate offshore wind farms, generate power and heat from our power stations as well as supply and trade in energy to wholesale, business and residential customers. In addition, we produce oil and gas, and a process has been initiated to divest this business unit. The continuing part of the Group has approximately 5,800 employees and generated a revenue in 2016 of DKK 61 billion (EUR 8.2 billion). For further information, see www.dongenergy.co.uk or follow us @DONGEnergyUK on Twitter.
The relationship enables Wienerberger to reduce the environmental impact of its operations and this will in turn provide a direct benefit to customers: particularly those pursuing low embodied carbon options for the built environment. Both businesses share a common goal of improving people's quality of life by making positive contributions to society, which the use of renewable electricity helps to deliver.

Jeff Whittingham, Managing Director at DONG Energy Sales UK, said:

"DONG Energy is driving the transition to low-carbon energy systems in the UK, and we believe that businesses should have access to renewable electricity supply without incurring additional cost. Naturally we are delighted that Wienerberger shares our ambition of creating this greener energy future. It's exciting that one of the UK's largest building material producers places such a strong emphasis on sustainability."

Paul Stevenson, Finance Director at Wienerberger, said:

"Our procurement of renewable electricity is just one of many steps we are taking at Wienerberger to reduce our carbon footprint. We're pleased to be working with DONG Energy, a company which shares our values and is passionate about enabling a sustainable future."
