Ørsted is partnering with safety leadership innovators Active Training Team Ltd (ATT) and local training centre, MODAL, to build a cutting-edge learning centre that will benefit a number of industries across the Humber.

The facility, to be designed by ATT and located at MODAL’s training complex in Immingham, will start off hosting an induction day developed for the construction team working on Ørsted’s latest offshore wind farm, Hornsea Two. This fully immersive training programme is designed to bring about transformational behavioural change in attitudes to safety.

Jason Ledden, Senior Project Manager for Ørsted’s Hornsea Two said: “The three key elements that have proven to be the DNA of safe, successful projects are to plan, care and communicate to colleagues. This training will envelope all three of these elements into one impactful training session. We understand that there are a whole host of industries across the Humber which require the high standards of safety that we do; so, by allowing others to utilise the facility, we hope that we’ll be able to reduce safety-related incidents in a number of sectors across the region.”

ATT brings award-winning experience in conceiving, designing and running bespoke facilities and Practical Safety LeadershipÒ programmes. Their work combines film, live action and interactive learning to give people a lasting awareness of their responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others.

Dermot Kerrigan, Co- Director of Active Training Team Ltd said: “Thanks to Ørsted’s investment, ATT have the opportunity to design a ground-breaking safety leadership centre of excellence on the Humber. As well as creating a wind power version of the programme, for use by Ørsted’s Hornsea Two and other clients in the renewables sector, we also look forward to hosting bespoke versions developed for clients in a variety of industries in the region – and beyond.”

MODAL is a centre of excellence for maritime, logistics and safety training, making it the ideal partner and location for the new facility which Ørsted and ATT hope to launch early next year.

Hugh Callaway, Managing Director at MODAL Training said: ““We are delighted to be collaborating with Ørsted and ATT in developing this unique training facility at MODAL.  Creating this training facility at MODAL provides Ørsted and ATT with a dedicated centre within a specialist facility that already serves the maritime and offshore sectors with bespoke competency development programmes and world-class simulation”.

Hornsea Two, located 89km off the Yorkshire Coast, will be able to power well over 1.3 million homes when complete in 2022, taking the title from its sister project, Hornsea One, as the world’s biggest offshore wind farm.
