Ørsted reorganises its Offshore business to support global growth

The global market opportunities in renewables continue to expand and present significant opportunities for growth. In 2019, Ørsted expanded into Taiwan and the US with the award of significant projects.

To support the execution of Ørsted’s project pipeline and future growth, we now introduce a new operating model for the Offshore business. The new operating model creates a more scalable organisation for Ørsted’s international expansion which combines market proximity with global scale and efficiency.

Ørsted’s Offshore business will be organised in four regions. Each region will be responsible for market and project development as well as asset management, while construction and operation activities will be delivered from Ørsted’s global EPC and O&M organisation, in close collaboration with each region.

The four regions are:

  • United Kingdom

  • Continental Europe

  • North America

  • Asia Pacific

The new organisation will be effective from 1 January 2020.

Region United Kingdom

The UK leads the world in offshore wind and our UK business has successfully grown our offshore wind operations so that we now power over 3.2 million UK homes with clean, green electricity.

Duncan Clark will be appointed to the new role as Head of Region, UK and hold an end-to-end accountability for the offshore wind value chain in the UK.

Duncan Clark brings with him a wealth of experience in the offshore wind industry, including as Programme Director for the world’s largest offshore windfarms, Ørsted’s Hornsea 1
and 2.

The evolution of Ørsted’s business strategy is a result of the increasing role of offshore wind in the UK, and as such the cross-Business Unit portfolio responsibility of the UK Country Chair role is no longer consistent with this new focus. As a result of these changes, Matthew Wright will leave the business on 28 February.

Henrik Poulsen, CEO of Ørsted, says:

“I would like to thank Matthew for his great contribution to our business in the UK, a market that has continued to develop and expand under his leadership. I wish Matthew all the best for his future endeavours.”
