Ten organisations around Liverpool Bay are celebrating the news that they have been awarded grants as part of the milestone tenth round of funding from Ørsted’s Burbo Bank Extension Community Fund.

The latest awards take the total number of projects supported to 126, with total funds awarded now standing at over £1.1million since the Fund launched in May 2015.

The tenth round of funding marks a major anniversary in the life of the Fund which is now five years old. The awards coincided with Ørsted announcing temporary changes to the funding criteria in response to the current global Covid-19 emergency. For the next two funding rounds, applications are being encouraged to support communities through the crisis and road to recovery.

On hearing the good news Clare Corran, CEO, Positive Futures said: “We are extremely grateful to receive funding for the Positive People’s project grant from the Burbo Bank Extension Community Fund. Positive Futures work across some of the highest wards of deprivation across North Liverpool and the work that can be carried out due to receiving this grant will immensely benefit the young people within these areas.

"We are absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to further our work in building relationships and encouraging more marginalised and dis-engaged young people within North Liverpool to participate within our activities to build friendships and develop their skill set.”

Rhian Lewis, Head of Operations at Domestic Abuse Safety Unit North Wales, also commented: “We are ecstatic with this outcome. Thank you so much for supporting us - this funding will provide vital support services to children and young people experiencing domestic abuse in Denbighshire.”

Imran Nawaz, Stakeholder Advisor & Community Benefit Fund Manager for Ørsted, said: “It’s been a remarkable five years in the life of the Community Fund. The purpose of our Community Funds is to create a lasting positive impact and we’re incredibly proud to have been able to support the 126 successful projects, who are all striving to make a difference in the local community. We look forward to the next five years and would encourage any community projects looking for funding to get in touch, especially in these challenging times.”

The Fund is being managed by national grant-making charity GrantScape and more details can be found at GrantScape’s website www.grantscape.org.uk or by calling 01908 247634. The closing date for the next round of applications is 23rd September 2020.

Each year for the expected 25 year lifetime of the Burbo Bank Extension offshore wind farm, approximately £225,000 will be made available for community projects, which will benefit the local area.

Ørsted’s Burbo Bank Extension offshore wind farm was officially opened in May 2017 and is capable of meeting the electricity demand of well over 230,000 homes. It was the first offshore wind farm in the world to commercially demonstrate the massive 8MW MHI Vestas turbines which stand at a staggering 195m, tall from sea-level to tip.
