Teachers gained a great understanding of the diverse roles and pathways available to young people within Ørsted. The event showcased Ørsted’s outreach efforts with schools and the positive impact these initiatives have had on local communities.

Attendees were treated to an exclusive tour onboard the Service Operation Vessel (SOV), offering a firsthand look at the operations and facilities. The SOV is home to wind turbine technicians who service one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world, Hornsea 1, and stay out in the North Sea for two weeks at a time. The discussions saw strategies being shared to improve apprenticeship applications, ensuring students have access to the best opportunities available. Teachers engaged in discussions on current resources and explored effective ways to integrate them into classroom teaching.

Harriet Farmery, community engagement officer at Ørsted, commented: "At Ørsted we are dedicated to our talent pipeline and being able to encourage young people in our area to roles within the renewable energy industry. Days like these show the importance of engaging with our local schools, to equip them with the knowledge to help young people into the sector. It’s been great to directly link with the teachers and show them the business, but also have the time to look at how we can develop our programmes and offer of support in the future."

The event concluded with actionable steps to incorporate the learnings into teaching practices, along with discussions on what extra support Ørsted can give to schools.

Laura Fuller, career lead at Waltham Toll Bar Academy, expressed her enthusiasm: "The day has given me a massive insight into what is available to local students and how best to apply - including useful do's and don'ts. It was amazing to see the site itself, and get a real feel of the industry, so we can go back into the classroom and tell our young people."

Vicky Booth, NE Lincs Enterprise Coordinator, Greater Lincolnshire Careers Hub, said: "The teacher encounter at Ørsted was a great success. It was a fantastic opportunity for curriculum staff to gain valuable insights in the various roles and pathways available to students. By connecting directly with industry professionals and visiting the site, teachers can now offer more informed guidance to their students, helping them navigate their future career paths with confidence".

Ørsted is proud to work with local schools, as together, they are committed to empowering the next generation with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the energy sector.
