Burbo Bank Extension Community Fund awards over £124,000 to community projects across the North West and North Wales

Delivered by Ørsted and administered by GrantScape, the fund supports projects that strengthen local communities, improve wellbeing and deliver lasting social and environmental benefits.

Among the projects supported is Inclusive Sports for All, delivered by Stand North Wales CIC, which will improve access to inclusive sports activities for young people and adults with additional learning and complex needs across Denbighshire and Conwy.

The £2,800 grant will be used to purchase specialist sports equipment, including adapted items for people with visual impairments and chair-based activities, enabling accessible sessions to take place in local community venues.

Yvonne Brookes, Director at Stand North Wales CIC, said: “This funding will allow us to remove barriers that often prevent people with additional needs from taking part in community sports. By investing in specialist equipment, we can ensure our sessions are welcoming, inclusive and accessible, helping people to build confidence, improve fitness and feel connected to their community.”

The Burbo Bank Extension Community Fund supports a wide range of initiatives, from community facilities and environmental improvements to projects promoting health, wellbeing and skills development.

Other projects supported in this funding round include:

• Wallasey Village Library & Community Centre – £12,891 to support renewable energy improvements at the community centre.
• Seacombe United Reform Church – £10,000 to install new windows at a multi-use community building in Seacombe.
• St Joseph’s Hospice Association – £5,200 to develop a woodland pond to enhance outdoor space and wellbeing.
• The L20 Hub – £19,096 to renovate Orrell Mount Pavilion and improve the community hub facilities.
• Friends of North Wirral Coastal Park – £5,000 to reclaim and restore the Leasowe nature pond.
• Equilibrium North West CIC – £19,652 to support the development of The EQ Community Café and Support Hub.
• Prestatyn Sports FC – £8,000 to complete a 100-seat grandstand at the club.
• The Halle O’Brien CIC – £4,680 to deliver a food waste reduction project through Halle’s Hub.
• UK Unplugged CIC – £5,000 to deliver hands-on marine biology education in Wallasey.
• Wirral Society of the Blind and Partially Sighted – £14,110 to replace the roof at Ashville Lodge Community Centre.
• Scrapyard Studios CIC – £13,296 to provide youth music opportunities in Bootle, Sefton.
• North West First Responder Group – £5,000 to support local emergency response activities.

In total, 13 projects have been awarded funding in this round, helping to strengthen communities and improve quality of life across the fund area.
