Grants and sponsorship

National Partnerships

RNLI

We have signed a partnership with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) to make a major contribution to the lifeboat running costs of six RNLI stations across the UK.

The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. They provide, on call, a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the UK and Ireland, and a seasonal lifeguard service. With their lifeboats, lifeguards, safety advice and flood rescue, they are committed to saving lives.

Natural History Museum

More than putting a spotlight on the beauty of our natural world, our sponsorship will also help to inspire and educate the next generation of bright minds.

As part of our partnership with the Wildlife Photographer of the Year at the Natural History Museum, we are supporting access to curated days of activities at the Museum for schools that might not otherwise have this opportunity, helping to encourage interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects.

Teach First

We will support the charity on a number of challenging targets to improve teacher attraction and retention, and pupil progression in the Humber and Merseyside regions.

Teach First is an education charity that believes disadvantage should not determine destiny. They are dedicated to working across society to change educational outcomes for children from low-income backgrounds in England and Wales. Learn more about TeachFirst.

We are working with Granstscape to develop and help manage Community Benefit Funds for our offshore wind projects in Liverpool Bay, the Irish Sea off the Cumbria coastline and the North Sea off the Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and North Norfolk coastline.

For more information about our three funds and the eligible areas, see the stories below.

Burbo Bank Extension Community Fund

In December 2014 Ørsted decided to construct the Burbo Bank Extension offshore wind farm. The site will be located west of the existing Burbo Bank operational wind farm in Liverpool Bay.

We are committed to a Community Fund worth approximately £225,000 each year for the lifetime of the Project.

East Coast Community Fund

This fund is worth up to £9.3 million and will support community and environmental projects in the coastal areas of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and north Norfolk. It has been established to ensure that local communities directly benefit from our wind farms along the East Coast.

Walney Extension Community Fund

In October 2015 Ørsted decided to construct an extension to the operational Walney offshore wind farm. The extension will be located in the Irish Sea, around 19km WSW off the Walney Island coast in Cumbria.

We are committed to a Fund worth approximately £600,000 a year for the lifetime of the Project. £100,000 of the fund each year is ring fenced for a Skills Fund.

Sponsorships and Donations

Our Community Benefit Fund giving is complemented by national and local sponsorships, donations and volunteering. This builds the relationship with the local community and helps spread an awareness of our company through brand profile-raising, engagement or grass-roots support.

Alongside other organisations we also donate funds to the West of Morecambe Fisheries Ltd for the purpose of supporting and developing commercial fishing activities.
