Woodcock Hill Wind Farm

About the project

Ørsted is exploring the development of a new windfarm in Sutherland, Scotland. The proposed site is located to the west of the A897, 3 km north of Forsinard and 12 km south of Melvich.

It is anticipated that the proposed development will include around 11 wind turbines with a tip height of 250 metres and a total export capacity up to 90 megawatts (MW). The proposal may also include an energy storage facility.

The project aims to supply clean and sustainable electricity to the national grid, supporting the UK Government objective to achieve 95% of electricity generation coming from low carbon sources by 2030.

Environmental studies have commenced at the site. Data collected from these studies, along with feedback from the local community and other stakeholders, will be used to inform the design of the project.

Local community

Communities and charities benefit from over £2 million awarded From Ørsted’s East Coast Community Fund
Ørsted is dedicated to being an active partner in the communities where we develop, build, and operate our green energy assets such as onshore wind farms. In Scotland, we offer a community benefit programme to support communities close to our wind farm sites and are keen to back local community projects wherever we can.

Community Benefit Fund
Every year over the operational lifetime of Woodcock Hill Wind Farm, Ørsted will contribute £5,000 per megawatt of installed wind energy to a community benefit fund. We will consult the people who live and work near our projects to ensure that the community benefit funds support those initiatives that are of most value to local people.

Community ownership
In some instances, Ørsted offers local communities surrounding our onshore wind projects the opportunity to own part of the project. By owning a part of Scotland’s green energy supply, local people have the chance to benefit directly over the long-term benefits onshore wind energy brings. If the community would like to explore community ownership options, please contact us.
