Teach First

Inspiring the next generation

Our support enables Teach First to further its work in addressing educational inequalities in Grimsby and Merseyside. We support the charity to attract, train and retain excellent teachers for those schools that need them the most; with a particular focus on teachers of STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

About Teach First

Teach First is a charity that exists to build a fair education for all. They seek, develop and support teachers and school leaders who are determined to make a difference in the communities where it’s needed the most.

Here are a few activities we've participated in

Hosting guest lessons

Our former Managing Director, Matthew Wright, visited Year 10 students at the John Whitgift Academy in Grimsby. He spoke about his career path from school to working at a leading energy company, as well as teaching them about offshore wind energy. Watch the video to learn more.

Grimsby Trip

Workplace tours

Our Race Bank team welcomed to site a group of year 9 and year 10 pupils from the John Whitgift Academy in Grimsby. The pupils spent a day getting to grips with the transferable skills you need in the workplace, learning about offshore wind and hearing from different team members about the route they took to working in the industry. After the visit, the Race Bank team offered two pupils from the group a two-week summer placement to gain invaluable experience of the workplace.

"Most surprising was how much work goes into building the wind farms – all the commissioning and planning. The work experience made me think differently about my future because I thought more about going into an engineering route or a computing route than I did before. Having that work experience will help me because I’ll have more confidence in the workplace."
